Griffin tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and suffered a partial medial ligament tear whilst being tackled.

It’s devastating news Griffin who tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee during a pre-season match in 2012.

Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi announced the disappointing news today, after scans and further tests by Melbourne Storm’s medical staff.

“We are very shattered for Slade, he’s been very impressive at NSW Cup level and has been knocking on the door to be recalled to the NRL squad,” Ponissi said.

“Slade is a resilient young man and we know he will commit to his recovery and rehabilitation with a strong work ethic to be back in early 2015.”

Griffin, who signed a new two year contract in March, will undergo surgery in the coming week.
