Playing a Grand Final during the day or at night?
It is a discussion that ended some time ago in the NRL but continues to rage on in AFL circles.
On Friday the AFL knocked back the idea of stage a night/twilight Grand Final this year.
It was a move the NRL made back in 2001 when Newcastle won the first ever Grand Final under lights over Parramatta.
Back in Craig Bellamy’s playing days, he stepped out on a Sunday afternoon for the 1990 Grand Final against Panthers.
However he admits things have changed a lot since then.
“With a Grand Final I think you could play it at 7 o’clock in the morning and you will fill the crowd up,” Bellamy said.
“Obviously it is mainly the financial aspect I’d imagine that the two leagues go on when they play their grand finals.
“These days it is always about the financial aspect and what pleases the sponsors, broadcasters and all of that stuff.”
Be there for our next home game at AAMI Park in Round 5, Saturday 1 April at 7:30pm.
