Two Brisbane Broncos were attempting to bring down Melbourne Storm prop Jesse Bromwich as he heard a voice screaming that the off-load was on.
Under team rules he knew he shouldn't give the pass but whoever was screaming was insistent so Bromwich made the pass.
Even before the ball went into the hands of opposition winger Corey Oates, Bromwich knew he had made a mistake and he felt even worse when the giant winger scored moments later, cutting the Storm's lead to 16-12 with 16 minutes to play in Thursday night's NRL season-opener at AAMI Park.
"I was filthy on myself for that," Bromwich said.
"I heard someone screaming for it, they kept screaming so I thought it was one of our guys. I threw the off-load and just saw Oates running down the field so I was praying Jahrome Hughes would tackle him but he scored under the sticks."
