Melbourne Storm forward Tui Kamikamica will undergo back surgery in Brisbane on Friday which will sideline him for up to three months.
The Fijian international hasn’t played for his club since round two and continued treatment has been unable to ease his symptoms to a point where he can return to the NRL.
Kamikamica’s recovery time will be dependent on what is discovered by the surgeon.
“This is horrible luck for Tui who was our best forward in the opening two games against Manly and Cronulla including scoring a vital try late in the win against the Sharks,” Storm general manager – football Frank Ponissi said.

Kamikamica: 'I can't walk at the moment, it's frustrating but I'll get through it'
“He looked to be on track for a wonderful season but this injury flared up over the Covid-19 break and has kept him off the field since then.
“Surgery is now the best course of action to get him back to full fitness.
“Everyone at our club wishes him all the best for a speedy recovery.”
