Jacks in halves frame for Storm with two Camerons out

Ryley Jacks is in the frame to start in the halves against the Roosters on Thursday night with Cameron Munster set to miss at least two weeks with a knee injury.

Munster, who suffered the medial ligament injury in Saturday's 41-10 win over the Bulldogs, will join captain Cameron Smith (shoulder) on the sidelines for the blockbuster in Sydney against the defending premiers.

Jacks has won 23 of the 29 games he has played for the Storm and has not let the club down whenever he has been called upon.

He came off the bench against the Roosters in the 27-25 golden point win last month when Cameron Smith moved from the halves and back into hooker, and acquitted himself well. Against the Bulldogs he came on when Munster went off and once again did his job.

"I thought he was really solid when he came on, Jacksy," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.

"Last time we played the Roosters, Munster was out then too. I can't guarantee that is the way we are going to go but I'm pretty sure that is the way we will go."

If Jacks starts he will partner Jahrome Hughes in the halves against the Roosters.

"Jacksy came on against the Roosters and went well so if he has to fill in for Munster I am confident he can do the job again," Hughes told NRL.com

"We have played a lot of footy together and he is a quality player."

Ryan Papenhuyzen was rested against the Bulldogs but will come back in at fullback to replace Nicho Hynes who filled in superbly against Canterbury.

Munster and Smith may both miss the clashes with the Roosters and Eels.

"Munster did the same injury [against the Warriors] and missed two weeks so it will be the same sort of thing I suppose," Bellamy said.

"It is not ideal at this time with Cameron Smith out and Munster as well. We need to roll with the punches and I am sure we will.

"We basically gave [Cameron Smith] the week off. He did a bit of running before the team trained yesterday but he has had a rest and didn't even come today.

"I'm not quite sure when he'll be back. I think it is going to be another couple of weeks to be honest and he'll be nice and fresh.

"We don't want Brandon Smith to be Cameron Smith. We just want him to be the best version of himself so we are just going to try and use the strengths of the guys that come into our team, and not try and turn them into the guys that they have replaced."

Bellamy said he couldn't guarantee another modern day classic against the Roosters like last time.

"It was one hell of a game of footy if you were a neutral footy watcher and while we can't guarantee that again, both teams are very competitive and will be going flat out," he said.

Bellamy said it was a "strange game" against the Bulldogs with a lot of stoppages but said his side won the game with a 13-minute period when they scored 22 points on the back of high completions and slick ball movement.

The Storm lost their way at various stages but Bellamy said that was understandable with Cameron Smith missing.

"We haven't played a lot without him so to not have him there was a bit different for us but a really good education for our younger guys, especially in the spine," he said.

"A couple of times it got sloppy but I couldn't ask more from their effort. We worked hard and what we got we deserved."
