Tigers pipped at the post

Trailing 8-6 at halftime, the Dolphins were the first to cross in the second half with Viliami Vailea putting his side in front.

However, in a closely-contested game, the Tigers were never out of the match, with Ioane Seiuli getting his side on the board again to keep the game tense.

In the end however, the boot of Sean O'Sullivan proved the difference, with his two successful conversions and a penalty goal helping secure the win.

After the game, Dolphins coach Adam Mogg was pragmatic about the result, saying the side were lucky to come away with the win, but he was pleased with the outcome.

“We don’t spend a lot of time together, we are getting better and we are building combinations," Mogg said.

“I felt like offensively, we didn’t execute as well as we would have liked, but just the ability of them to keep working hard for each other in defence – obviously, they have a pretty good attacking team – Dezzy (Darren Nicholls) and (Michael) Purcell, and a couple of good middles, I thought Jordy Grant was really strong for them today.

"I thought the Tigers played well today, it was a good game of footy, and just for us to grind it out for each other and hang on, I thought it was a real good show of character."

Tigers coach Jon Buchanan was proud of the way his team played and thought that effort would be rewarded with wins later in the season.

“Credit to Redcliffe, it was a really good game of footy to be honest, two good footy teams, both completing really high, we probably just couldn’t find a way to get a result in the end," Buchanan said. 

“We will win our fair share of footy games if we defend like that for 80 minutes, I thought we defended really well, I think that everyone wants a result, credit to Redcliffe, they just kept turning us away; we maybe missed a couple of chances, but they defended whatever we threw at them really well.

“Always something to work, we will dust ourselves off and go again."

Next week, on Sunday, May 23, the Tigers will play Tweed Seagulls in Round 8 - Week 1.

The Dolphins will have the weekend off and be back in action for Round 8 - Week 2 against PNG Hunters.
