Storm's fortnight of Women in League celebrations

The NRL’s official Women in League Round will see Melbourne Storm kick off two weeks of celebration of the women that bring the Club to life, while also advocating for gender equality.

This year's league-wide theme centres on ‘Play Your Part’, highlighting how everyone can help change the story, focussing on action to advance the cause of women’s equity across the code.

While celebrations begin this week as the squad travel to New Zealand for Round 20, Storm will continue the acknowledgments into Round 21 when they come home to AAMI Park to face the Gold Coast Titans.

Overall, Women in League round will be supported by the broader Women of Storm program aimed to provide the platform to celebrate and empower women to drive positive change, inclusiveness and equality.

Women In League: Round 20

Last week, the Club released their Women of Storm warm-up tees. Taking inspiration from the phrase ‘Strength in Equality’, the tee showcases strength, the Victorian Women’s Trust and an ‘=’ sign. The playing squad will wear the tee for pre-game warm-ups in Rounds 20 and 21 and a training session in the coming week.

Well received by Storm fans, the women cut has sold out online and will be restocked in the coming days. The tee will also be available on game day from Round 21.

Women of Storm beanies and scarves are also available now from the Storm online store, here.

Kicking off internally, Storm hosted a Club-wide BBQ acknowledging and recognising the achievements and contributions of the women that bring the Club to life, alongside presenting the warm-up tee to players.

Throughout the next few weeks, the Club will share profiles of the incredible women that make Melbourne Storm and its supporting communities such as Sunshine Coast Lightning, NRL Victoria and partners.

Women In League: Round 21

After launching our Women of Storm program earlier in the year, the Club will host the inaugural Women of Storm Event prior to kick-off for Round 21.

Victorian Women’s Trust

Throughout the following two weeks of Women in League activities, Melbourne Storm will be highlighting its strong decade-long partnership with the Victorian Women’s Trust.

Established in 1985, the Victorian Women’s Trust operates with the vision that ‘full gender equality = a world where women, girls, non-binary and gender diverse people take up all of life’s opportunities with respect, safety and dignity.’

Storm sees this as a practical and symbolic statement of women and men working together, advocating for gender equality.

The long-standing partnership has seen the pairing deliver the ‘Be the Hero’ campaign, preventing violence by building respectful relationships between young men and women, and the ‘Storming Against Violence’ campaign, highlighting the key role men play in reducing violence against women and children.

Player Welfare Manager Brian Phelan and Player Wellbeing Coordinator Peter Robinson have been active members of the VWT Critical Friends Group, supporting the development of Club Respect, a community sports initiative that promotes safety and respect in clubs across the country.
