Entering the season as reigning Melbourne Storm Player of the Year, Jahrome Hughes lived up to expectations in 2022, cementing himself as one of the competition’s best playmakers.
Playing his sixth run in the Melbourne side, Hughes showcased how far he has come with a consistent on-field effort. 12 tries, 10 line breaks, 1,021 receipts, 2,031 run metres from the halfback paved the way for one of his more impressive seasons so far.
Hughes’ game was stepped up to another level in Round 6, pulling on the captain’s hat in absence of Jesse Bromwich and Christian Welch, leading the squad to a 34-18 win over the Sharks. The milestones continued in Rounds 19 and 21 when he celebrated 100 NRL and Storm games, respectively.
Hughes has since re-signed with Storm until the end of 2026, where he is sure to continue to flourish as a league-best halfback.
In the mid-season Representative Round, and after his crowning as the 2021 Kiwi Player of the Year, the New Zealand native joined the 2022 Kiwi International Test squad. Hughes will again pull on the black jersey as he lines up for New Zealand in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.
