Two Albury Thunder players are receiving a special insight into life as an NRL player with Melbourne Storm this week.
As part of the ongoing connection between the two rugby league clubs, forward Reece Clegg and back Jeremy Wiscombe have joined the start of 2023 pre-season training, getting the chance to receive hands-on tuition from Storm’s football department alongside members of the club’s NRL squad.
Their first session came on Gosch’s Paddock on Tuesday when they were faced with some tough conditioning drills, as well as some skills coaching followed by a gym session.
It’s the second year that the Thunder have sent two of their best players to Storm to experience pre-season at the higher level.
The partnership started after Storm relocated to Albury during the initial COVID lockdown in May 2020 which was followed by a trial game in the border city at the start of the 2021 season. Clegg was part of Storm’s playing squad on that day against the Newcastle Knights.
“We hold our relationship with Thunder in high regard,” Storm General Manager – Football Frank Ponissi said.
“Reece and Jeremy will get a great insight into our pre-season training program this week which will not only benefit them for their season ahead, but also give them some key knowledge to take back to their Thunder teammates.
It’s a pleasure to have them with us this week, building on the links we have with Albury and the Thunder in particular.

“We look forward to our relationship with the Thunder continuing in the coming seasons.”
