Melbourne Storm has locked in two of its best young talents to extended NRL contracts.
Tyran Wishart, who won Storm’s Billy Slater Rookie of the Year Award in 2022, and halfback Jonah Pezet, who was player of the match in this year’s Under-19s Origin match, have signed on through to the end of the 2025 season.
From Gerringong in New South Wales, Wishart first joined Storm midway through the 2021 season.
He made his debut in round one of 2022 season, coming off the bench unexpectedly early in the game to play 79 minutes at hooker in the come-from-behind victory against Wests Tigers.
The versatile 23-year-old played a number of positions in the backline over his 15 matches, including a start at fullback and several long stints on the wing.
Pezet has been part of Storm’s top 30 squad in 2022 after initially joining the club on a development contract.
He has progressed through from the Jersey Flegg competition with the Victorian Thunderbolts to a regular position for the Brisbane Tigers in the Hostplus Cup in the past 12 months.
The 19-year-old, who came to Storm from Newcastle, played 10 times for the Tigers this year, and posted five try assists to go with four linebreak assists.
However, the highlight of his season came in a NSW jumper when he set up four tries in the Blues’ dominant 32-4 win against Queensland in the annual under-19s match.
The two signatures add to the off-season contract extensions for young forwards Trent Loiero and Alec MacDonald.
