Joel Selwood admits it will be a strange feeling as he sits on the side line for Melbourne Storm’s Pre-Season Challenge clash at GMHBA Stadium this Sunday.
Selwood made the switch to rugby league as Storm’s leadership coach following his retirement from a record-breaking AFL career with the Geelong Cats.
Coincidentally, his first match as a part of the purple pride has landed at the Cats home ground in Kardinia Park, Geelong.
“I had a pretty good record down there, so hopefully the boys can continue that on,” joked Selwood.
“It’s gonna be a little bit different sitting on the other side of the fence but, in saying that, I'm still learning the game and my key role is to look after those leaders and bring those them through as quickly as possible.”
Joining the Club in November on a once-a-week basis, the 34-year-old has already received high praise from the NRL squad with Xavier Coates sharing “he brings a lot of knowledge”.
However, the quadruple AFL premiership player remains certain on just adding his experience to the already successful Club rather than over-hauling the system.
“The storm way has been strong for a long, long time,” Selwood said.
Selwood: "I had a pretty good record down there"
“It's more me joining with the Storm than them joining in with the way that I did things down the road,
“It's about getting these boys together and working out what they can do.”
