Head coach Craig Bellamy kept the Club's trademark Round 1 winning streak alive Thursday night with a 16-12 win over the Eels, totalling 20 consecutive wins. Bellamy and Storm have not lost a Round 1 encounter since 2003.

Stepping into the No.4 jersey in the centres, Young Tonumaipea made his presence felt with an impactful Round 1 performance. The Victorian recorded six tackle breaks and two line breaks against the Eels, proving to be a handful for the Parramatta defence.

While his match-winning try will capture all the attention, Harry Grant's 59 tackles, the highest of any player on the field on Thursday night helped lay the foundation for Storm's victory.

The Melbourne Storm honour roll added three new names following the 2023 season opener. Bronson Garlick and Will Warbrick who have both followed the road less travelled to the NRL made their first-grade debuts while Eli Katoa made his Storm debut after crossing over from the Warriors in the off season. All debutants put out performances that is sure to please coach Craig Bellamy heading into Round 2.
