Melbourne Storm has announced the appointment of Richmond Tigers’ three-time Premiership captain, Trent Cotchin, as a leadership consultant for 2024.
Cotchin becomes the third AFL Premiership captain to join Storm in a leadership position, following in the footsteps of Collingwood’s 2010 Premiership captain, Nick Maxwell, and two-time Geelong Premiership captain, Joel Selwood.
He will work with new Storm captain, Harry Grant, vice-captains, Jahrome Hughes and Cameron Munster, along with the extended leadership group of Ryan Papenhuyzen, Josh King and Tui Kamikamica.
“Trent will be working with our leadership group at various stages throughout the year, helping with both their on and off field development,” Storm General Manager Football, Frank Ponissi, said.
“He has already spent a day with our players last week and having seen him in action, it is easy to see why he was so respected as a leader at the Tigers.
We think adding Trent to the mix will bring a new perspective and provide our leaders with another fresh voice.
Storm’s leadership program will be overseen by coaching coordinator, Jason Ryles, who has returned to the club after stints with England Rugby and NRL club, the Sydney Roosters.
