Melbourne Storm has today confirmed a contract extension for halfback Jonah Pezet who has signed a four-year deal which runs through until the end of the 2029 season.
The promising playmaker, who made an impressive try-scoring debut against the Gold Coast in 2023, becomes the third player this month to commit their future to the Storm, joining Ryan Papenhuyzen and Trent Loiero.
Highly regarded within the Storm ranks, Pezet registered ten appearances throughout the 2023 season, scoring two tries and generating five try assists and four line-break assists. He also featured in Storm’s HostPlus Cup affiliate Brisbane Tigers’ drought breaking Premiership in the same year.
Pezet: "Hopefully I can repay the faith"
The 2024 season saw Pezet feature at five-eighth for the opening three NRL matches, setting up the match-winning try against Penrith. Pezet’s campaign was unfortunately cut short in April after suffering an ACL injury in the HostPlus Cup.
The 21-year-old has since returned to pre-season training and remains on track to be available for selection heading into 2025.
“It’s a special feeling to continue my career at the Storm. The club has put a lot of faith in me from a young age and hopefully I can repay that over the next few years,” Pezet said.
“I have loved the environment and playing with this group of players, I’ve learnt a huge amount from the senior guys and our coaching group. Last season didn’t go to plan for me, but I’m excited to get back playing and contribute as much as possible.”
Storm Director of Football Frank Ponissi was pleased with the retention of Pezet in the Club’s playmaking ranks.
“Jonah is an exciting talent and someone we see as an important member of our squad over the coming years. He’s had a strong start to his career and we’re looking forward to his continued development in 2025.”
