Melbourne Storm’s General Manager of Football, Frank Ponissi has provided an injury update following Sunday’s pre-season game against the North Queensland Cowboys.

Hugo Peel will be sidelined for an extensive period following his collision with teammate Coby Williamson on Sunday. The Academy fullback suffered a concussion and fractured jaw.

“It was an unfortunate accident for Hugo. In terms of his concussion, he is doing well and was in good spirits after the game. Unfortunately, Hugo suffered a fractured jaw which required surgery on Monday. We expect Hugo to be back playing in 8-10 weeks.”

Sua Fa'alogo is expected to be ready for Round 1 following hamstring tightness on Sunday.

“Sua experienced tightness to his hamstring during the Cowboys game. He was taken off as a precaution given it was a pre-season match. He had scans on Monday, and we expect Sua to be fit for Round 1.”

Ryan Papenhuyzen was ruled out of Sunday’s game due to a knee and ankle complaint. The fullback will return to training this week and will be assessed over the coming days.

“Paps will start training with the group on Wednesday. He’ll need to get through this week to be considered for Round 1. Obviously, we would love him to play against Parramatta, but with the bye in Round 2, Paps will be given plenty of time to get his body right for the Panthers game the following week.”

Ponissi also confirmed that Jahrome Hughes, Xavier Coates and Will Warbrick will return to full training on Wednesday and will be available for Round 1 selection.
