Melbourne Storm’s General Manager of Football, Frank Ponissi has provided an injury update ahead of Sunday’s Round 5 clash with the Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval.

Jahrome Hughes (fractured hand) has been named in the 22-man squad for Sunday and will need to pass a fitness test to determine his availability.

“Jahrome has progressed quickly from his hand injury. Our medical staff came to us earlier this week and reported that he might be available for Sunday.

“There’s still some work to do before that becomes reality. Jahrome will need to train with the squad over the next two days and then a selection decision will be made on Saturday morning.”

Jonah Pezet is likely to miss 8-12 weeks with a knee injury. The halfback played his first game in nearly 12 months on Saturday for the North Sydney Bears. Pezet has been sidelined since April 2024 with an ACL injury.

“Jonah played 40 minutes for the Bears and did really well in his first game back in nearly a year. He will undergo minor surgery this week to stabilise his knee.

“I want to give Jonah a massive wrap for the manner in which he has managed this latest setback. He’s remained positive throughout and will work hard to get himself back playing.”

Nelson Asofa-Solomona remains sidelined following his Round 3 concussion.

“NAS hasn’t passed the concussion protocols to be available this week. We’re hoping he will improve over the coming days and be ready for selection for the Warriors game on Sunday 13 April.”

Marion Seve will undergo scans this week to determine his recovery from a hamstring strain.

“Maz suffered a hamstring injury in training yesterday. It’s unfortunate for Maz, he’s another player who has been out for a long period of time. He’ll have an MRI scan this week to determine the length of his rehab.”

Nick Meaney continues to recover from his facial fracture sustained against Penrith.

“Nick is doing really well. Our medical staff report it’s a four to six week injury. He’s now into his second week and there’s nothing to suggest he will be sidelined for any longer than first reported.”

Ponissi also commented on Moses Leo following his first game of rugby league for the North Sydney Bears on Saturday.

“It was exciting to see Moses play his first game. He got through the match extremely well, and has worked hard throughout pre-season, despite a few injury setbacks. He has been named in the 22-man squad for Sunday and will continue to play for the Bears as he prepares for NRL selection.”
