After playing a singular game for both the Gold Coast Titans and North Queensland Cowboys, Hughes made his Melbourne Storm club debut in round 16 of the 2017 season.
Jahrome capped off his best year as an NRL player in 2021 by winning Storm’s Player of the Year and Members’ Player of the Year awards, as well as being named Kiwis Player of the Year.
Now a senior figure amongst the playing squad, Jahrome Hughes showed he isn’t a one trick pony in season 2023, demonstrating his ball playing abilities, kicking game and excellent vision throughout the year.
The 29-year-old was electric in attack, racking up 21 try assists and equalling the second highest line break involvements of anyone in the competition.
Storm fans will not be forgetting Hughes stellar performance against the Parramatta Eels in Round 22 any time soon, the halfback recording one try, four try assists, three line breaks and six tackle breaks.
Hughes also played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s inaugural Pacific Championships title, making his 10th appearance for his country and having five try assists and one try.
Hughes was appointed Vice-Captain of the club alongside Cameron Munster ahead of the 2024 season.
2024 continued to prove to be Hughes’ year, scoring twelve tries and claiming twenty-six try assists. Hughes’ was rightfully awarded after a stellar season, receiving the Cameron Smith Player of the Year Award and RedZed Members Player of the Year Award at the Melbourne Storm Player of the Year Awards. In a thrilling one-point difference finish, Hughes also tied up his season being awarded the 2024 NRL Dally M Medallist.
Hughes was also selected in the Kiwis side for the 2024 Pacific Championships but was unfortunately forced to withdraw due to a neck injury suffered in the 2024 NRL Grand Final.
